Losec treats acid-related indigestion, gastroesophageal reflux, reflux esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and reduces stomach acid during general anesthesia.
Losec is a proton pump inhibitor that works by reducing stomach acid secretion because it blocks the acid pumps in the parietal cells within the stomach from secreting acid and is activated by the acidic environment of the stomach and then inhibits the action of H+/K+ ATPase of the parietal cell of the stomach, which helps in controlling the amount of acid secretion in the stomach.
