Erythrocin is used to treat infections that appear to be allergic in patients who have an allergic reaction to penicillin, such as respiratory infections, including Legionella infection, in addition to skin and mouth infections, and intestinal infections caused by Campylobacter bacteria.
Erythrocin is also used to prevent pneumococcal infections in patients who do not have a spleen or who suffer from sickle cell anemia in the event of an allergy to penicillin, as well as to prevent and treat whooping cough.
