About Urokinase A protease enzyme, a plasminogen activator, A thrombolytic agent. Mechanism of Action of Urokinase It exerts it`s fibrinolytic action by activating natural fibrinolytic system. It causes lysis of thrombus or clot and thus recanalyses occluded blood vessels such as coronary artery. It directly activates plasminogen to active plasmin (fibrinolysin). Plasmin converts insoluble fibrin to soluble fibrin fragments. Indications for Urokinase 1. Acute myocardial infarction 2. Pulmonary embolism 3. Venous thrombosis 4. Arterial Thromboembolic disorders Interactions for Urokinase Anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents: Carefully monitor since they may cause bleeding complications.
