Epiran relieves heartburn associated with indigestion and prevents heartburn associated with indigestion or eating certain foods and drinks. It treats duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, esophageal reflux, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and esophagitis. Epiran is a drug that belongs to a group of drugs called histamine 2 blockers, because it prevents histamine from reaching its receptors on the surface of stomach cells, thus reducing the production of stomach acid.
