Caladryl lotion is used to relieve itching and soothe skin irritation caused by a variety of conditions, such as insect bites, rashes, sunburn, or contact with irritating plants such as poison ivy. Caladryl typically contains a combination of an anti-itch agent, such as calamine, with a mild local anesthetic, such as diphenhydramine or lidocaine, effectively reducing itching, pain, and redness.
Caladryl lotion cools and soothes the skin and forms a light protective layer to prevent further irritation. It is also used for rashes caused by allergies or heat rashes and helps dry wet or blistered rashes. Gently apply the lotion to the affected area, usually several times daily, as needed or as directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucous membranes.
