Amoxil is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. This medication belongs to a class of antibiotics called penicillin. It works by preventing the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic is used to treat bacterial infections only. It will not be effective in treating viral infections such as the common cold or flu.
Amoxil is used with other medications to treat stomach or intestinal ulcers caused by the bacteria H. pylori, and to prevent ulcers from recurring.
