    Medicine Description

VANCOZIN Vial is a glycopeptide antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, including infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death and preventing the spread of infection.

When administered appropriately, VANCOZIN is highly effective in treating severe infections involving the bloodstream, bones, lungs, and heart. Oral vancomycin is also used for specific gastrointestinal infections, particularly Clostridioides difficile -associated colitis.

    VANCOZIN Ingredients

    Vancomycin.

    VANCOZIN Strengths

    • Powder for solution for intravenous infusion, 500 mg per vial.

    Uses of VANCOZIN

    • Treatment of severe bloodstream infections (bacteremia and sepsis).

    • Management of serious bone and joint infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

    • Treatment of severe pneumonia and bacterial endocarditis.

    • Treatment of Clostridioides difficile -associated pseudomembranous colitis when administered orally.

    VANCOZIN Dosage

The usual adult dosage is 500 mg every 6 hours or 1 g every 12 hours by slow intravenous infusion. Pediatric and neonatal doses are calculated according to the patient's age, body weight, and clinical condition.

Dose adjustments are required in patients with renal impairment to reduce the risk of drug accumulation and toxicity. Therapeutic drug monitoring is often recommended during treatment.

    Side Effects of VANCOZIN

    • Red Man Syndrome, characterized by flushing of the face, neck, and upper body during rapid infusion.

    • Temporary hypotension, skin rash, or itching.

    • Kidney toxicity or hearing impairment, particularly with prolonged therapy or high drug levels.

    Contraindications of VANCOZIN

Do not use this medication if you have a known hypersensitivity to vancomycin or other glycopeptide antibiotics.

Vancomycin must never be administered as a rapid intravenous injection. It should always be infused slowly to reduce the risk of infusion-related reactions. Use with extreme caution in patients with hearing impairment or severe renal disease, with close medical supervision and regular monitoring of serum drug concentrations.
