Mechanism of action/Effect: Clodronate belongs to the class of bisphosphonates which bind to hydroxyapatite and then inhibit the formation and dissolution of calcium crystals in vitro. Bone resorption inhibitor�Clodronate causes a reduction of normal and abnormal bone resorption in the human bony skeleton. By altering osteoclastic and osteoblastic activity, clodronate changes the balance of bone resorption and bone formation and results in a reduction of bone turnover. Antihypercalcemic agent�With the reduction in bone turnover, hypercalcemia of malignancy (with or without skeletal masses) is diminished.
