Fosamax helps prevent bone loss in postmenopausal women, as well as in men or people taking corticosteroid hormones such as prednisolone and methylprednisolone.
Fosamax has been shown to promote bone growth and strength, reducing the risk of bone fractures, especially in the spine and hip, in postmenopausal women and men with weak bones. Alendronic acid is part of a group of medicines called bisphosphonates. Alendronate works to prevent osteoporosis by inhibiting the activity of bone-breaking cells. In addition, alendronic acid helps raise calcium levels in the bones.
