Comparison of the difference between Capotril and Enalapril tablets for high blood pressure treatment

23 April 2025

Both Capotril and enalapril are used to treat high blood pressure, heart failure, and some other cardiovascular conditions. They both belong to the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, but they differ in some pharmacological properties, speed of action, and duration of action.

    Capotril Tablets

Capotril tablets contain the active ingredient captopril, 50 mg per tablet in this example. Captopril is an ACE inhibitor that works by blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a substance that constricts blood vessels and increases the secretion of aldosterone, leading to high blood pressure and fluid retention. Captopril has a faster onset of action and a relatively shorter duration of action compared to some other ACE inhibitors.

    Enalapril Tablets

Enalapril tablets contain the active ingredient enalapril, 20 mg per tablet in this example. Enalapril is also an ACE inhibitor, but it is a prodrug that is converted in the liver to its active form, enalaprilat. Enalapril has a relatively slower onset of action but a longer duration of action than captopril.
