Aggrastat is used to prevent blood clots from forming inside blood vessels, especially in people who suffer from acute coronary syndromes such as unstable angina or heart attacks. The drug works to prevent platelets from sticking together, which reduces the risk of blockage of blood vessels feeding the heart.
Aggrastat is also used effectively during cardiac catheterization or when placing stents to improve blood flow to the heart muscle and reduce the possibility of serious complications resulting from re-blockage of blood vessels.
