Ramipril is mainly used to treat high blood pressure and help prevent complications associated with it such as strokes and heart attacks. It is also used to improve heart function after a heart attack and to treat heart failure.
Ramipril may also be prescribed to protect against kidney complications in diabetic patients with high blood pressure. The drug works by widening the blood vessels, which helps reduce the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood.
