About Phenazopyridine Azo dye, Nonopioid analgesic, Urinary Analgesic, Interstitial cystitis agent. Mechanism of Action of Phenazopyridine Phenazopyridine is a urinary analgesic. The relief of discomfort is mostly attributed by its local anaesthetic action rather than antibacterial action. It exerts a topical analgesic effect on the urinary tract mucous and provides symptomatic relief of burning, urgency, frequency, pain, and other discomforts arising from irritation of the lower urinary tract caused by infection, trauma, surgery, endoscopic procedures, or the passage of catheters.
