Medicine Description
Velcade is an anticancer medication used under the supervision of a specialist to treat certain types of cancer. It
contains bortezomib as its active ingredient, a proteasome inhibitor that works by blocking the growth and
multiplication of malignant cancer cells.
The medication is administered by intravenous or subcutaneous injection in hospitals and specialized medical centers.
It is an important treatment option for patients with multiple myeloma or mantle cell lymphoma and helps control
disease progression while improving the patient's quality of life.

Velcade Dosage
The dose is calculated according to the patient's body surface area (BSA). The standard recommended dose is
1.3 mg/m²

The medication is usually administered twice weekly for two consecutive weeks, followed by a 10-day rest period. It is
given by intravenous or subcutaneous injection by a qualified healthcare professional.
Side Effects of Velcade
Peripheral neuropathy with numbness or pain in the extremities.
Fatigue and severe tiredness.
Nausea, vomiting, and decreased appetite.
Diarrhea or constipation.
Decreased platelet count and reduced white or red blood cell counts.
Fever and an increased susceptibility to infections.
Contraindications of Velcade
Velcade should not be used in patients with severe hypersensitivity to bortezomib, mannitol, or any of the product's
ingredients.
Its use should also be avoided in patients with acute infiltrative lung disease, severe pulmonary fibrosis, or acute
pericardial disease. The medication should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the potential benefits
clearly outweigh the risks, as determined by the treating physician.

Use During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Velcade is contraindicated during pregnancy because it may cause serious harm to the developing fetus. Women of
childbearing potential should use effective contraception throughout treatment and for the period recommended by their
physician after the last dose.
Breastfeeding should also be avoided during treatment because the medication may pass into breast milk. If pregnancy
occurs unexpectedly during treatment, the treating physician should be consulted immediately.

Store in a dry place at a temperature below 30°C.
Keep the vial in its original carton to protect it from direct light.
The prepared solution should be used immediately or stored according to the pharmacist's instructions.
