UNSIATEM is a medication used for the long-term management of elevated blood uric acid levels in patients with gout. It contains febuxostat, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor that reduces the production of uric acid in the body.

By lowering serum uric acid levels, UNSIATEM helps prevent the formation and deposition of urate crystals in the joints and kidneys, reducing the risk of recurrent gout attacks and related complications.

Uses of UNSIATEM

• Long-term treatment of hyperuricemia in patients with gout.

• Prevention of urate crystal formation and deposition in joints and surrounding tissues.

• Reduction in the frequency of recurrent gout attacks.

• Helps reduce the risk of uric acid kidney stone formation associated with elevated uric acid levels.

Dosage

• The usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily.

• If the target serum uric acid level is not achieved after approximately 2 weeks, the dose may be increased to 80 mg once daily.

• In selected patients, the dose may be increased to 120 mg once daily, as determined by the treating physician.

Side Effects

• Temporary gout flare-ups at the beginning of treatment.

• Mild abnormalities in liver function tests.

• Nausea, mild diarrhea, or transient gastrointestinal disturbances.

• Mild skin rash or headache.

Contraindications

• Do not use this medication in patients with known hypersensitivity to febuxostat or any of the tablet ingredients.

• Concomitant use with azathioprine or mercaptopurine is contraindicated because of the risk of serious drug interactions.

• Treatment should generally not be initiated during an acute gout attack; therapy is usually started after the attack has resolved.

• Use with caution in patients with ischemic heart disease or congestive heart failure, and only under close medical supervision.

How to Use UNSIATEM Correctly

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water at approximately the same time each day.

• The medication may be taken with or without food.

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help reduce the risk of uric acid stone formation.

• Do not discontinue the medication if a gout flare occurs after starting treatment. Continue taking the medication as prescribed and consult your healthcare professional for appropriate treatment of the acute attack if needed.
