    Both Zovirax cream and acyclovir cream are used to treat viral skin infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, such as oral herpes (cold sores) and genital herpes. They both contain the same active ingredient at the same concentration, meaning they have the same mechanism of action and therapeutic uses.

    Zovirax Cream Ingredients

    Zovirax cream contains the active ingredient acyclovir at a concentration of 5% w/w. Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that works by inhibiting the replication of herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella zoster virus (VZV). Topical acyclovir is absorbed through the skin in small amounts.

    Acyclovir Cream Ingredients

    Acyclovir cream also contains the active ingredient acyclovir at the same concentration of 5% w/w. Acyclovir cream is simply a product containing the active ingredient acyclovir and may be a generic product or a different brand name from Zovirax.
