Comparison of the difference between Eltroxin and L-Thyroxine tablets for hypothyroidism treatment

23 April 2025

Both Eltroxin and L-thyroxine are used as thyroid hormone replacement or supplementation for hypothyroidism. They both contain the same active ingredient, but in different concentrations, making them suitable for different doses or stages of treatment.

    Ingredients of Eltroxin Tablets

Eltroxin tablets contain the active ingredient levothyroxine sodium, at a concentration of 100 mcg per tablet in this example. Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4), the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It is used to replace a deficiency of this hormone in the body.

    Ingredients of L-thyroxine Tablets

L-thyroxine tablets also contain the active ingredient levothyroxine sodium, but at a concentration of 25 mcg per tablet in this example. As with L-thyroxine, L-thyroxine is used to replace thyroid hormone deficiency. The different concentrations provide flexibility in adjusting the dose to meet individual patient needs.
