Ioprost eye drops are a sterile ophthalmic solution containing the active ingredient latanoprost at a concentration of 0.005%. Latanoprost is commonly used as an antiglaucoma medication to reduce elevated intraocular pressure. This is achieved by increasing the drainage of aqueous fluid from the eye, which helps maintain healthy intraocular pressure.
What are the ingredients of Ioprost?
Ioprost eye drops contain the following active ingredient:
Latanoprost: 0.005% w/v.
The solution also contains preservatives such as benzalkonium chloride and other ingredients to adjust the pressure and create a sterile solution.
What are Ioprost uses?
Ioprost eye drops are used to treat:
Increased eye pressure (ocular hypertension), which can lead to glaucoma.
Open-angle glaucoma is the most common type of glaucoma. Treatment aims to reduce elevated eye pressure to preserve vision and prevent further damage to the optic nerve.
What are the dosages of Ioprostol?
Ioprostol eye drops should be used as directed by your doctor. The usual adult dosage is one drop in the affected eye once daily, preferably in the evening. Do not use more than one drop per day in the affected eye, as overdosing may reduce its effectiveness.
To administer the drops: Gently pull the lower eyelid open to form a small pocket. One drop is instilled into this pocket without touching the dropper tip to the eye or any other surface to avoid contamination. Gently close the eye after instillation for a minute or two to help absorb the medication and reduce systemic absorption.
If the patient is using other eye drops, wait at least 5 minutes between applications.
What are the side effects of Ioprostol?
Ioprostol eye drops may cause some side effects, including:
Iris discoloration to brown (permanent).
Increased length, thickness, and number of eyelashes, and discoloration.
Eye redness or irritation.
Itchy eyes.
Feeling of a foreign body in the eye.
Temporary blurred vision.
These side effects are usually mild and temporary, except for iris discoloration, which is permanent. In rare cases, more serious side effects, such as eye inflammation or eyelid swelling, may occur. You should notify your doctor immediately if you experience any severe, persistent, or unusual side effects.
